From the reviews
Sensei John Benedict is an excellent teacher. He is highly skilled, experienced, and a great motivator. Taking class with him has helped me to gain confidence, and I don't shy away from conflict anymore once it arises. I am a stronger person because I train in traditional martial arts.
Excellent school! Sensei John Benedict teaches karate the old school traditional way. If you want to really understand martial arts and learn techniques that really work this is the place for you. The people are great! Highly recommended!
This dojo is by far the best place I have ever been to and I've been to several different dojos. When I found this place I knew I was home. This is hardcore traditional and effective training , this is the place you go if you truly want to learn to defend yourself.
One of the best decisions I made at 9 years old was joining this dojo. Here I am, many years later, still thankful to be a part of something so honorable and traditional in the martial arts world. I have gained confidence, strength, and some forever friends that I take with me everywhere I go.
Your first Karate class at Seitouha Goju Ryu Karate & MMA
Nervous about walking into a Karate dojo for the first time? Almost everyone is, and a good sensei expects beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic stances, blocks, punches, and kicks — not hard sparring. Step to the side whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot. What to bring: water, and a mouthguard if you have one — many dojos lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gi and the belt your dojo awards you. Kumite (sparring) eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the sensei. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
