From the reviews
My son attended ASKA from Kindergarten through 5th grade. This is not your typical after school program…this is a family! You can’t ask for better care of your child.
Afterschool Karate Academy has been a true gem for our family. Our kids have been attending for several years. We appreciate the smaller size which allows for some individual attention and ability to do trips with the kids (during breaks, kids have gone to various parks, swimming, etc).
Our son absolutely loves this program! He is learning new skills in his karate journey while having fun! It is structured to meet his needs and offers tons of activities and movement. We love that he is engaged, moving, and learning all at the same time.
Brandon has been training with Sifu Chris Redmond since he was 4 years old. He has certainly gained the skills to defend himself when necessary. More than that, he has learned skills of self-discipline, focus, respect and integrity. He is now 13 years old and entering 8th grade. He continues to train with Sifu Chris!!
Your first Karate class at Afterschool Karate Academy (Carolina Martial Arts)
Nervous about walking into a Karate dojo for the first time? Almost everyone is, and a good sensei expects beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic stances, blocks, punches, and kicks — not hard sparring. Step to the side whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot. What to bring: water, and a mouthguard if you have one — many dojos lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gi and the belt your dojo awards you. Kumite (sparring) eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the sensei. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
