From the reviews
My son started attending this karate academy when he was 5 and a half years old. Now he’s 8, and it’s been such an amazing journey watching him grow through this program. The instructors are incredibly patient, supportive, and truly passionate about what they do.
By far the best karate class my son has attended we been coming over a year and the whole staff is amazing. They make sure the kids are ready to move on to the next belt and they help them mentally to be more disciplined and understand how to handle themselves.
My son has been attending AKI for the past 5 months, during this time we have appreciated tremendous development on our kid. Karate-wise we have found the sessions to be intense and challenging enough to keep him engaged and to improve his skills day by day.
Mr and Mrs Gonzalez where my Masters back in 1984. I was 14 years old, they taught me self respect, loyalty and integrity, they were my second family I learned so much from them that they made a lifelong impact in my life, that was one of the best investments my father ever made, but most of all I learned selfdefense…
Your first Karate class at American Karate Institute
Nervous about walking into a Karate dojo for the first time? Almost everyone is, and a good sensei expects beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic stances, blocks, punches, and kicks — not hard sparring. Step to the side whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot. What to bring: water, and a mouthguard if you have one — many dojos lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gi and the belt your dojo awards you. Kumite (sparring) eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the sensei. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
