From the reviews
We started taking our 9-year-old son here recently and have been nothing but impressed! Our son is an introvert with a borderline-unhealthy obsession with video games. He has never expressed interest in sports prior to meeting Sensei Zach and starting at Aplomb.
I started one month ago and have found that even though it’s out of my comfort zone Sensei Zach and Sensei Victor make me feel at ease. They encourage you to do your best and take the time to explain the details of each movement. The dojo is clean and all of the students have been welcoming and encouraging.
Was looking for something to help me stay mentally and physically fit and safe in an exhausting hospital environment. This place is great, I feel stronger and have more energy. I highly recommend this place for anyone seeking self defense and fitness.
My son has been learning under Sensei Zach since October 2025. He has learned so much and we have seen a huge difference in him. He is obsessed with video games and this has been a great way to get him more active.
Your first Karate class at Aplomb Martial Arts Blue Springs
Nervous about walking into a Karate dojo for the first time? Almost everyone is, and a good sensei expects beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic stances, blocks, punches, and kicks — not hard sparring. Step to the side whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot. What to bring: water, and a mouthguard if you have one — many dojos lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gi and the belt your dojo awards you. Kumite (sparring) eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the sensei. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
