From the reviews
I was looking for self-defense classes and found this one near my house. It's really an incredible program. It's a joint boxing-brazillian jiu-jitsu course for a very affordable price. Coach Andre is welcoming and a great instructor. Everyone is really friendly, too.
*Update* Frankly, I am UPSET! I knew we were leaving an incredible school when we moved, but it wasn't until we were looking in to new schools at our new location that it fully set in! The school as a whole, but especially Mr.
This facility is wonderful. Lots of flexibility on lesson times and convenient location. My child is am emotional being and and progressed to a purple belt with the staffs patience. Mr Bergonia and Mr. Billburry are un-matched with skill and patience. Truly takes a special person to be a good teacher and they excel.
The owner Andy and all the teachers Mr. Rios, Miss Ortez, and Mr. Bradley are amazing it's definitely a family oriented atmosphere. They're great with teaching the children of all ages, not only do the kids learn self defense they also learn discipline, confidence, and how to work as a team.
Your first Karate class at Benicia Boxing & Martial Arts
Nervous about walking into a Karate dojo for the first time? Almost everyone is, and a good sensei expects beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic stances, blocks, punches, and kicks — not hard sparring. Step to the side whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot. What to bring: water, and a mouthguard if you have one — many dojos lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gi and the belt your dojo awards you. Kumite (sparring) eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the sensei. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
