From the reviews
As someone who came here after having trained in another system, I sincerely appreciate the patience, time, and effort of everyone here in helping me to adapt. New students, regardless of their experience or lack thereof, are welcomed and valued as individuals.
My seven year old son started taking karate here about 6 weeks ago. He was immediately welcomed and felt right at home from day one. I have noticed a better attitude and more confidence in everyday life in just these few short weeks. Kaicho has an infinite amount of patience with the youngsters in class.
I started taking classes at IKU under Kaicho David around two months ago. I was a bit unsure of what to expect, even after a recommendation from a good friend, but I’d been contemplating learning martial arts for years and decided to finally give it a try.
I was a a gym fanatic but I started going to IKU with my son and am very pleased with the classes . Every class is geared to make you more focused and stonger. David is a very good instructor and a kind soul. I think it so important that in order to achieve anything in life ,fcous is very important.
Your first Karate class at IKU Kyokushin Kai Karate LLC.(IKU)
Nervous about walking into a Karate dojo for the first time? Almost everyone is, and a good sensei expects beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic stances, blocks, punches, and kicks — not hard sparring. Step to the side whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot. What to bring: water, and a mouthguard if you have one — many dojos lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gi and the belt your dojo awards you. Kumite (sparring) eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the sensei. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
