From the reviews
Dr. James Dozia is a Karate Expert who has been teaching karate to kids, women and men in Rocky Mount, Wilson, Nashville, Spring Hope, Tarboro and Raleigh North Carolina for over 3 decades. He is a devout man of God and the Karate he teaches helps build confidence, control and discipline in all of his students!
My grandson was having behavioral problems in Pre-K. He was getting into trouble every day. I enrolled him into Dozier Karate School and he has improved in his behavior almost over night.
James Dozier is great karate sensei, teaching two black belts and a brown belt in my family. As in the Karate Kid movie, some of the instructional learning time is frustrating. But patience, confidence, defense, fighting skills, and a love of God will be the eventual result. Unconventional...maybe, but proven result...
I took many years of karate from Mr. Dozier. I found them him to be a very competent instructor with many years of experience. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with him and the knowledge he passed down to me. I would highly recommend the school.
Your first Karate class at James Dozia karate
Nervous about walking into a Karate dojo for the first time? Almost everyone is, and a good sensei expects beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic stances, blocks, punches, and kicks — not hard sparring. Step to the side whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot. What to bring: water, and a mouthguard if you have one — many dojos lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gi and the belt your dojo awards you. Kumite (sparring) eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the sensei. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
