From the reviews
Been training with the instructor, Dan, for about two years now. Look forward to my weekly training. Self defense training has not only helped me feel safer and more confident in public but it has positively impacted other areas of my life such as learning deep breathing exercises and stretches.
I've only been training here for a few months. At 61 and out of shape, it's a good workout. I like that Dan not only does the practical training but takes the time to explain the reason behind the various movements and techniques.
I have Trained with Dan Nolan for the past 12 years. He is dedicated to helping each of his students succeed. Training is well structured to permit beginners to grow from basic techniques to advanced techniques safely.
Dan Nolan and his instructors are incredible-- they are patient, and make you feel comfortable immediately. I can tell that Dan loves to teach and is passionate about martial arts, and is especially patient with kids. I would not hesitate to have one of my children work with him!
Your first Karate class at Juko-Kai Dallas Karate & Jujitsu Academy
Nervous about walking into a Karate dojo for the first time? Almost everyone is, and a good sensei expects beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic stances, blocks, punches, and kicks — not hard sparring. Step to the side whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot. What to bring: water, and a mouthguard if you have one — many dojos lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gi and the belt your dojo awards you. Kumite (sparring) eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the sensei. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
