From the reviews
We couldn’t be more grateful to have Brendan working with our son. He is an outstanding Kempo teacher — highly skilled, incredibly patient, and truly gifted in working with children. From the very first class, it was clear that he genuinely cares about each student’s growth, both on and off the mat.
I've been very thankful that I've been able to train at Koga Shin Kan in Kempo with a highly capable instructor. Brendan has been very flexible with ensuring that I'm able to participate despite some physical limitations. This is truly a welcoming environment with a friendly vibe for individuals and families alike.
A most excellent Dojo! Sensei Brandan is knowledgeable, welcoming and patient with students of all ages. My son (8 yrs old) absolutely loves Kempo and is learning a ton about his body and mind.
I can't say enough good things about this dojo. The training is real, the quality of instruction is outstanding, the atmosphere is encouraging and supportive.
Your first Karate class at Koga Shin Kan Kempo Dojo
Nervous about walking into a Karate dojo for the first time? Almost everyone is, and a good sensei expects beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic stances, blocks, punches, and kicks — not hard sparring. Step to the side whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot. What to bring: water, and a mouthguard if you have one — many dojos lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking. As you keep training you'll add your own gi and the belt your dojo awards you. Kumite (sparring) eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the sensei. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
