Enrolling in martial arts classes was something that I had been interested in but, unfortunately; could not find the time. After retiring, I went about researching an appropriate facility and found that Lockhart's Karate Academy met my requirements.
Lockhart's Karate Academy in Aliso Viejo is absolutely amazing! They have become like family to many students! My daughter is now a senior in college and we have known Dan since she was in Jr high. He is a great person who teaches more than just karate.
My son just started at Lockhart's Karate Academy and absolutely loves it. He looks forward to his classes and has grown so much in not just his physical abilities but attention span & confidence in the short time he's been taking lessons. Master Lockhart & all the instructors are fun and kind but firm.
My three kids aged 11, 9 and 6 have been going to Master Lockhart's karate studio for almost 2 years. It has been a wonderful experience for my kids all along. They look forward to their karate classes. They are learning some great life skills while having fun. Mater Lockhart is really good with the kids.
Your first Karate class at Lockhart's Karate Academy
Nervous about walking into a Karate dojo for the first time? Almost everyone is, and a good sensei expects beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic stances, blocks, punches, and kicks — not hard sparring. Step to the side whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot. What to bring: water, and a mouthguard if you have one — many dojos lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gi and the belt your dojo awards you. Kumite (sparring) eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the sensei. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
