My son was so shy and not confident so i searched for a place that he could be himself, be comfortable and have fun and i feel like i won the lottery because my baby has grown and has come sooooooooo far in such a very short time!!! This place is an answer to my prayers. The staff is so great. SO GREAT!
I took my son for the first time on yesterday. Chris is 6 and has been wanting to join karate for about 2 years now. The communication with the facility has been great. They are on top of communication, getting back to you, working "within" your schedule, etc.
They have been great with both my kids. My daughter has been having so much fun making new friends and gaining confidence in herself. They are super patient with her during her not so great days (she’s 4) I love the mighty mites program.
My son has been attending OKS for six years, and it has helped with his focus due to ADHD. The staff are great with kids! Especially as students get older, it gets more difficult and they will have to be corrected a lot.
Your first Karate class at OKS Martial Arts and Fitness, Inc
Nervous about walking into a Karate dojo for the first time? Almost everyone is, and a good sensei expects beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic stances, blocks, punches, and kicks — not hard sparring. Step to the side whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot. What to bring: water, and a mouthguard if you have one — many dojos lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gi and the belt your dojo awards you. Kumite (sparring) eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the sensei. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
