From the reviews

I couldn’t have better things to say about this place and ALL of their employees!! We were having a difficult time with our 7 year old son. We had a meeting with the school about his behavior and social skills and I was just about ready to bring him to a child psychologist…when he was invited to go to Paul Prendergast…

I cannot begin to express the change in my son in only 3 weeks! The drive to attend Karate and learn! The teachers at school making it a point to let me know how my son is doing things for others and showing RESPECT!. Mr.

My son started at the Brick PPK in 2022 when he was four years old. He immediately became passionate about karate after that first intro class and would beg to go back almost daily. He would actually cry because they were not open on Sundays!

When my husband passed away suddenly in October of 2020 we were obviously devastated. My complete focus became finding stable support and balance for my daughter Jane, who was 6 at the time. In my search to find somewhere I could bring her for support during the pandemic, I came across Paul Prendergast Karate.

Your first Karate class at Paul Prendergast Karate

Nervous about walking into a Karate dojo for the first time? Almost everyone is, and a good sensei expects beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic stances, blocks, punches, and kicks — not hard sparring. Step to the side whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot. What to bring: water, and a mouthguard if you have one — many dojos lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gi and the belt your dojo awards you. Kumite (sparring) eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the sensei. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.

Karate is a contact sport. Ease in, train within your limits, listen to your instructors, and if you have any injuries or health concerns, mention them before class and check with a doctor if you're unsure.
