I've been not only a student for the last 18 years, but also more recently an instructor. This martial arts studio has taught me more about my own potential and shown me what determination, hard work, respect and what "Doing the Right Thing" can lead to and I've never been more proud of myself.
I was fortunate to have had the opportunity to take Tang Su Do under Master T in the late 1980s. The training I received there served as an important part of a larger foundation that has helped me throughout my life. I enrolled my 3 children in West Boca Karate about 2 years ago. My youngest was very shy, and I was told that Karate may help him become more social and confident. I could not be happier with the service Master T has provided to my family. My youngest is now a green belt as well as my older children.
Master T is an amazing instructor. he makes the class fun but also teaches them about respect, resilience and believing in one self. They're always excited to go and to learn. Would highly recommend!
Your first Karate class at West Boca Karate Center EST.1986
Nervous about walking into a Karate dojo for the first time? Almost everyone is, and a good sensei expects beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic stances, blocks, punches, and kicks — not hard sparring. Step to the side whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot. What to bring: water, and a mouthguard if you have one — many dojos lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gi and the belt your dojo awards you. Kumite (sparring) eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the sensei. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
