My 10 year old daughter started learning Karate approximately 1 year ago at this location. In the past year I have seen my daughter’s confidence grow. The classes have a little bit of everything including basic karate, sparring and grappling.
My daughter has been attending for over a year and we love it! Love how motivated she is to learn and the determination she has to rank up. This is all because of the amazing instructors and class environment. Not only do they teach karate, but this place is very family oriented.
Renshi Elaine is very good with young people. She teaches them safety, to get motivated and to be well disciplined individual when it comes to self defense. Our son, James, has been under her teaching since he was very little, around 6 or 7 years old. He is now 16 and he still enjoys being in her class.
Renshi Elaine and her staff are wonderful instructors. My son, Drew has been a student of Yamano’s Shorin-Ryu Karate for since March 2021. He enjoys going 2 or 3 days a week because the instructors are patient and makes learning karate fun.
Your first Karate class at Yamano's Karate Shorin-Ryu Martial Arts Classes
Nervous about walking into a Karate dojo for the first time? Almost everyone is, and a good sensei expects beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic stances, blocks, punches, and kicks — not hard sparring. Step to the side whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot. What to bring: water, and a mouthguard if you have one — many dojos lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gi and the belt your dojo awards you. Kumite (sparring) eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the sensei. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
