From the reviews
I am so glad we found Zanshin Shotokan Karate! At first, I wanted my son to take karate lessons to help with respect and obedience, but when my son and daughter tried it out...They immediately LOVED it and wanted to do more!
My son has been going to Sensei Rocky for over a year and I have been lucky enough to watch almost every class during that time. Sensei Rocky is an amazing teacher. He treats each student with respect and dignity, while pushing each to be their very best.
Zanshin Shotokan Karate has been fantastic for my son who joined last fall. Sensei Rocky has a great balance of humor, christian wisdom, respect, honor, and self discipline. It has been a huge blessing for my family especially during this pandemic.
My son has been attending for 4 years. Not only has he developed better focus and self control but I appreciate the character development Sensai Rocky incorporates into their workouts. He is not just developing the skill of karate, but the heart and values as well. Highly recommend this program.
Your first Karate class at Zanshin Shotokan Karate and Fitness
Nervous about walking into a Karate dojo for the first time? Almost everyone is, and a good sensei expects beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic stances, blocks, punches, and kicks — not hard sparring. Step to the side whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot. What to bring: water, and a mouthguard if you have one — many dojos lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gi and the belt your dojo awards you. Kumite (sparring) eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the sensei. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
