From the reviews
We recently attended a birthday party at the Lenexa AmeriKick and had a fantastic experience! Our child was the youngest in the group (just 3 years old), and I was a little unsure how he’d do — but he had an absolute blast.
I was looking for a new hobby for my son and gave Karate a try. My son is on the autism spectrum and understanding and following instructions is a challenge. I have seen a lot of progress in his skills, coordination, confidence, and strength these 4 months.
Sensei Rodrigo is amazing with the kiddos. He is able to keep them focused the whole class by making it fun and engaging. I love that he instantly remembers all of the kid’s names making them feel seen and like he’s one of their friends; he also notices little details.
My daughter is turning two months in martial Arts. She’s more then happy going to her classes. It’s helping her with her self-esteem, and self confidence. And awesome coaches.
Your first Karate class at AmeriKick Martial Arts Lenexa
Nervous about walking into a Karate dojo for the first time? Almost everyone is, and a good sensei expects beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic stances, blocks, punches, and kicks — not hard sparring. Step to the side whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot. What to bring: water, and a mouthguard if you have one — many dojos lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gi and the belt your dojo awards you. Kumite (sparring) eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the sensei. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
