Everyone here is fantastic. We have been coming here for my son since Feb 2022 and have since, signed up our daughter, as well. Master Ripepi greets everyone with the warmest smile as soon as they walk through the door and is sure that everyone feels welcome.

The 7 yr old I bring to classes here LOVES it and would go every day if he could. He is inspired to BE MORE, REACH HIGHER and LIVE DIFFERENTLY and learning to thrive with confidence. Families are connecting and building respect for one another through the Martial Arts approach.

★★★★★ — Judith, Feb 2020

My son LOVES Asian Sun. He has Autism and he didn't like the Taekwondo in Florida. He didn't want to go but his Aunty encouraged him to go because his cousin is a black belt there. Well, my baby is not only a yellow tip now but he's in the Black Belt Club and he LOVES IT. Everyone is SO NICE AND FRIENDLY!!

★★★★★ — Monica, Feb 2020

The staff is super friendly and very knowledgeable /helpful to the children. They do very well with children. They are very disciplined and No Nonsense. I would recommend this place to anyone. My son wants to strive there and I'm glad he has the support to do so.

Your first Karate class at Asian Sun Martial Arts Taekwondo Karate of Beachwood Shaker Heights

Nervous about walking into a Karate dojo for the first time? Almost everyone is, and a good sensei expects beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic stances, blocks, punches, and kicks — not hard sparring. Step to the side whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot. What to bring: water, and a mouthguard if you have one — many dojos lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gi and the belt your dojo awards you. Kumite (sparring) eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the sensei. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.

Karate is a contact sport. Ease in, train within your limits, listen to your instructors, and if you have any injuries or health concerns, mention them before class and check with a doctor if you're unsure.
