From the reviews
My son Ward absolutely loves Boulder Karate and especially Sensei Tim. He’s told me many times that “Tim brings out the best in him,” and I couldn’t agree more. As a parent, I really appreciate the balance this program strikes — kids are expected to work hard to earn their advancement, but the environment is always…
My boys and I LOVE Boulder Karate! It has been an amazing experience getting to learn and grow together as a family through martial arts. I’m a single mom with two boys and I wanted to have a fun family bonding activity, as well as, find a way to instill good values for my boys.
My daughter has been attending martial arts classes at Boulder Karate for over two years now and we couldn't be happier. The senseis are totally awesome... very personable, professional and high energy!
Boulder Karate continues to be a wonderful experience for my 16 year old. He has been with this dojo for a couple of years now. My son has said that martial arts, and specifically this dojo, have taught him the value of putting in the work and not just doing the bare minimum.
Your first Karate class at Boulder Karate
Nervous about walking into a Karate dojo for the first time? Almost everyone is, and a good sensei expects beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic stances, blocks, punches, and kicks — not hard sparring. Step to the side whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot. What to bring: water, and a mouthguard if you have one — many dojos lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gi and the belt your dojo awards you. Kumite (sparring) eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the sensei. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
