From the reviews
Since 2010, I have been a student at Callahan's Karate. I started as a Little Dragon at the age of three, and I could not be more grateful for the extremely inspiring community that I grew up in.
I have been a student at Callahan's Karate since 1998 . I have been a student for most of the time the studio has been open, and I have never left. Even when I lived away from the area for 10 years, I took classes on visits home. I even took classes on Zoom during the pandemic.
Our son has been a student of Callahan's for two years. He started when he had just turned 5 years old as a Little Dragon. We had asked his elementary school for recommendations for outside activities. One of his teachers highly recommended Callahan's and it was the best decision we made for our family.
I have been a karate student at Callahans for almost 21 years. I have had the distinct pleasure of a lifetime to be a student from when I was 6 years old, and continue my training now that I am 27! Callahans has truly been a family affair, as I have been able to thoroughly enjoy my training with my mom, and my sister.
Your first Karate class at Callahan's Karate Studio Inc
Nervous about walking into a Karate dojo for the first time? Almost everyone is, and a good sensei expects beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic stances, blocks, punches, and kicks — not hard sparring. Step to the side whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot. What to bring: water, and a mouthguard if you have one — many dojos lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gi and the belt your dojo awards you. Kumite (sparring) eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the sensei. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
