From the reviews
We have been going to Connecticut Kenpo for almost a year with our 7 year old son and we LOVE Professor Lee Anne and Wayne. They keep a positive environment within the studio but always challenge their students.
My son has been going since he was 4 years old and he is turning 8 this year. His brother will start this year when ge turns 4. I was nervous about them learning martial arts so young but the staff at this school is so amazing.
My kids have done all types of sports and activity and this has been their favorite. The other kids and families are nice. The price is affordable and I love that they do 4 classes a week. The classes are fun but are also very practical.
CT Kenpo Karate is by far the best karate studio in the area. The professors do a wonderful job instructing the children and are friendly with families. They focus on development of respect and skills; not just winning and getting belts. They provide a warm and safe environment for all.
Your first Karate class at Connecticut Kenpo Karate
Nervous about walking into a Karate dojo for the first time? Almost everyone is, and a good sensei expects beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic stances, blocks, punches, and kicks — not hard sparring. Step to the side whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot. What to bring: water, and a mouthguard if you have one — many dojos lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gi and the belt your dojo awards you. Kumite (sparring) eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the sensei. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
