From the reviews
I've been a student at Ichiban for 4 years and it's truly changed my life. I'm in significantly better shape, i have definitely developed skills in Karate and Thai, I've met a ton of great people, and I've been encouraged to pursue constant improvement and have met a number of goals that I never would have tried…
My son, daughter and I started at Itchban in 1991. I lived my life by the discipline, self-control and respect for others, I have learned from karate. It was some of the best years of my life. I often reflect back on the people I studied with at Itchban.
The best of the best. A family-oriented studio that teaches a powerful and ancient form of Okinawan karate called Shōrin-ryū Shidōkan, as well as kickboxing and other exercise. Highly traditional but highly effective. A great studio for all ages and experience levels.
Not only do my boys love coming here, but the physical and moral lessons taught here are sound and universal. I love it that my kids are learning focus and mindfulness. The studio is bright and clean, and the staff is always cheerful and helpful.
Your first Karate class at Ichiban Karate and Fitness
Nervous about walking into a Karate dojo for the first time? Almost everyone is, and a good sensei expects beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic stances, blocks, punches, and kicks — not hard sparring. Step to the side whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot. What to bring: water, and a mouthguard if you have one — many dojos lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gi and the belt your dojo awards you. Kumite (sparring) eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the sensei. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
