I’ve been studying at the school for 14 months, started at the age of 55. This dojo is an awesome place to study the arts and disciplines, and to learn other life lessons, such as being humble, and take care of yourself with integrity and much more. I consider this place my second home and family.
This is a school I would recommend. My husband has Advanced far in under a year. Sensei has more patients then I would. A week ago I got to meet some of the newer students at the pot luck for the awards ceremony. I also have gotten to see some of the other students improve over this time
Great place to learn Iaido/Iaijutsu. I studied with Master/Sensei Geelani for a few years and learned how to defend myself as a martial artist. Sensei Geelani is a great man and a wonderful instructor of the martial arts! He teaches authentic Japanese martial arts. He also taught me some Karate & Kickboxing techniques!
The best in the business! We are newcomers to this establishment but our daughter already loves the facility and the instructors. We are so happy we found this place and are so pleased with the instructors.
Your first Karate class at Japan Karate Academy
Nervous about walking into a Karate dojo for the first time? Almost everyone is, and a good sensei expects beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic stances, blocks, punches, and kicks — not hard sparring. Step to the side whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot. What to bring: water, and a mouthguard if you have one — many dojos lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gi and the belt your dojo awards you. Kumite (sparring) eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the sensei. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
