From the reviews
My son and I started in the middle of April 2021 and that place has become a second home to us. I take kickboxing (& tried ju jitsu) while my son takes karate. Brian and the staff are just amazing and it's worth the price. No one judges you which is one of the greatest feelings when you walk in.
I love taking cardio kickboxing here! They have wonderful instructors. I had never taken a kickboxing class before, but now I'm addicted. Easy to adjust to your fitness level and the other people in the class are great. I've never felt intimidated by the exercises or the other humans or atmosphere.
The atmosphere was very inviting I'm not in amazing shape yet but I didn't feel judged or silly for trying & failing at some of the moves. The instructor divided his time between participants and gave easy to follow instructions.
Great workout! Super instructors! Awesome vibe. They recognize your physical limitations (I'm 63) and teach accordingly. My grandson and I are having a blast and really learning skills.
Your first Karate class at Kickboxing Academy-Brian Johnson Karate
Nervous about walking into a Karate dojo for the first time? Almost everyone is, and a good sensei expects beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic stances, blocks, punches, and kicks — not hard sparring. Step to the side whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot. What to bring: water, and a mouthguard if you have one — many dojos lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gi and the belt your dojo awards you. Kumite (sparring) eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the sensei. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
