We recently started my 5 year old at Lone Star Black Belt Academy and we all love it! The instructors are so amazing, they take the time to ensure not only that us parents are knowledgeable but that the kids are understanding of what is being taught and with so much patience and care.
Our son, who has Autism, has had the ability to learn & participate at Lone star black belt academy like nowhere else. He has been attending this dojo since 2011. The personal & character growth we have seen in him, as a direct result of working with Sensei Jackson & his team, has been phenomenal.
We have been coming to Lonestar Blackbelt Academy since 2019! We love each and every person there! Great staff with a family atmosphere.. They are fantastic with all the kids!!!! Master Jaskson and his staff teach kids that it's ok to be different as well as working as a team, encouraging them to always do their best.
My son has been learning from Master Jackson, Mr. Chris and team for over 5 years now. I've sat through many hours of lessons (not as many as my wife & daughter, lol) and have had the pleasure of watching in particular Master Jackson teach his students not only about karate, but life.
Your first Karate class at Lone Star Black Belt Academy
Nervous about walking into a Karate dojo for the first time? Almost everyone is, and a good sensei expects beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic stances, blocks, punches, and kicks — not hard sparring. Step to the side whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot. What to bring: water, and a mouthguard if you have one — many dojos lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gi and the belt your dojo awards you. Kumite (sparring) eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the sensei. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
