From the reviews
My children went to Max Scruggs Karate when they was 8 and 13, they are now 16 and 21. My son (21 years old now) told me sending him to Max Scruggs Karate was the best thing I could have ever put him in! He is a manager at a poplar restaurant and he is about join the police force.
Our son has been apart of the Scruggs Karate family for over one year now. We love that he’s being challenged mentally, emotionally, and physically to become a better version of himself. We’ve appreciated the attentiveness, love, and professionalism of the dojo’s staff.
Take both my grandsons ages 6 and 10. The Sensei is FANTASTIC! He doesn't just teach he motivates and inspires the kids to be the best version of themselves. He teaches them to be disciplined and respectful not just in the dojo but outside of it as well. I highly recommend Scruggs to anyone looking for karate classes.
My son has been attending for the past few years, and the growth I’ve seen in him has been amazing. When he first started, he was very shy and hesitant to come out of his shell—but the instructors created such a supportive and encouraging environment that he quickly began to build confidence.
Your first Karate class at Scruggs Karate Studio
Nervous about walking into a Karate dojo for the first time? Almost everyone is, and a good sensei expects beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic stances, blocks, punches, and kicks — not hard sparring. Step to the side whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot. What to bring: water, and a mouthguard if you have one — many dojos lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gi and the belt your dojo awards you. Kumite (sparring) eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the sensei. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
