What students say
“She is an incredibly talented instructor teaching imo the best style of traditional Japanese Karate.”
From the reviews
Traditional karate school teaching original Japanese Wado Kai method. Great school, inspiring Sensei! I wanted to take karate classes as a child but that was impossible. A career and raising a family took priority later. Even though I’m much older I still had the desire to learn.
Sensei Mondry is an absolute LEGEND!!! She stays true to the traditional values of Wado while adding an elegant modern touch. Her knowledge, passion, and dedication shines through with the growth of her students and it is truly inspirational.
I've been training under Sensi Mondry since 2020. She is an incredibly talented instructor teaching imo the best style of traditional Japanese Karate. If you want to get fit, stay flexible, learn to defend yourself, and have fun learning the traditional art of Karate there is no better place!
Our daughter has been enjoying about 1.5 years here. Sensei Mondry is fantastic and excellent even with small children. If anyone asks about martial arts, I always recommend checking out this dojo.
Your first Karate class at Southern Utah Wado Kai Karate
Nervous about walking into a Karate dojo for the first time? Almost everyone is, and a good sensei expects beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic stances, blocks, punches, and kicks — not hard sparring. Step to the side whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot. What to bring: water, and a mouthguard if you have one — many dojos lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking. As you keep training you'll add your own gi and the belt your dojo awards you. Kumite (sparring) eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the sensei. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
