From the reviews
Signed my son up for karate. He had being taking Taekwondo at another place and I was not happy with the progress. TAC is where he should have been in the first place. I like the discipline and structure of the class and how the instructors take the time to show him how to kick/punch.
Hanshi Tankson is very professional and open to new ideas. He offers a cardio class, women's self defens, children, teen and adult classes. He supports his student endeavors and offers after school programs.
This school is a hit of nostalgia. I was freshman of ‘South Shore: School of Entrepreneurship’ back in 07. I got ruffed up once so bad by a would be gang member in my class I got sent home. Then my school paid for this man to come and teach a defense class after school. Long story short, Larry C.
I'm very impressed by the instruction conducted by the Sensei and other instructors. I'm particularly impressed by Dr. Tankson's work with children (4 years and up). He's done a fantastic job with my 5 year old grandson.
Your first Karate class at TAC Karate & Fitness
Nervous about walking into a Karate dojo for the first time? Almost everyone is, and a good sensei expects beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic stances, blocks, punches, and kicks — not hard sparring. Step to the side whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot. What to bring: water, and a mouthguard if you have one — many dojos lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gi and the belt your dojo awards you. Kumite (sparring) eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the sensei. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
