From the reviews
I've been training at the Tiger Schulmann's Wayne location for almost 8 years. This is one of the most challenging physical fitness programs I have every participated in. The curriculum is updated often providing challenges for students at all levels. It doesn’t stop when the workouts are over.
I've been attending the classes at the Wayne location of Tiger Schulmann's for over 12 years, with no signs of stopping! I no longer live in the area, but still make the trip 3-4 times a week to train. It's a true family atmosphere, and it starts at the top with Sensei and his team.
I started training with Sensei and Joshu when I was 6/7 years old and though I took a break during my teenage years, they welcomed me with open arms when I started training again 4 years ago as a young adult! The classes are so fun, but the best part is that you get to learn a life-long skill of self-defense.
I have been going here since I was 5 years old. This school has taught me discipline, determination, and how to take better care of my body. This school is like my second home to me because I am with people I like to be around.
Your first Karate class at Tiger Schulmann's Martial Arts (Wayne, NJ)
Nervous about walking into a Karate dojo for the first time? Almost everyone is, and a good sensei expects beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic stances, blocks, punches, and kicks — not hard sparring. Step to the side whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot. What to bring: water, and a mouthguard if you have one — many dojos lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gi and the belt your dojo awards you. Kumite (sparring) eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the sensei. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
