From the reviews
I started here at Tracy's Karate back in October of 2018 to try to get back into shape (I'm now in the best shape of my life). Going here has been one of the best improvements to my life that I've ever experienced. The private lessons are customized for each student (each student has different strengths).
I started training with Tracy's Karate in 2008, and I would recommend them to anyone. My private lessons are fun, Ben Pratt will patiently work with me if I'm not getting it, and I've found sparring to be both game and sport.
Ben is a 👍 instructor explains techniques well and makes sure you know them so that you could apply them if they were needed to. I've had a few martial arts instructors and he is great.
We were looking for karate lessons for our 7-year old daughter, and Tracy's Karate already had a strong reputation as a top notch studio in St. Louis. We were thrilled to find that the new location in Chesterfield, in addition to being close to home for us, is every bit the top notch studio we were looking for, and…
Your first Karate class at Tracy's Karate
Nervous about walking into a Karate dojo for the first time? Almost everyone is, and a good sensei expects beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic stances, blocks, punches, and kicks — not hard sparring. Step to the side whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot. What to bring: water, and a mouthguard if you have one — many dojos lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gi and the belt your dojo awards you. Kumite (sparring) eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the sensei. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
