From the reviews
Sensei is a great teacher. He sincerely teaches and cares about your karate education. He is very dedicated and loyal to teaching his students karate. For the past three years I have attended his classes and Sensei has always acknowledged my and my dads learning styles. Thank you, sensei.
An update 6 years later: We are still with Sensei Sanjit at Tri-Valley Karate. My daughters and I attend classes regularly every week and have learned so much about karate and how our bodies move over the years. We have built a community of fellow karate partners that truly feels like family.
I joined Tri-Valley Karate in 2019 when I couldn't speak English fluently as I just moved from Japan. I already had a black belt from a different branch of karate then, but Sensei was was very nice and considerate about my circumstance and I was able to learn a lot even with my broken English for the first year.
I have had both the honor and pleasure of training alongside Sensei Sanjit Mandal for almost 10 years during his time in Boston. He was at that point already a senior student of our Sensei Kazumi Tabata, and a trusted mentor to myself and other new students.
Your first Karate class at Tri-Valley Karate Pleasanton - Goju Ryu Karatedo Seiwakai
Nervous about walking into a Karate dojo for the first time? Almost everyone is, and a good sensei expects beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic stances, blocks, punches, and kicks — not hard sparring. Step to the side whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot. What to bring: water, and a mouthguard if you have one — many dojos lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gi and the belt your dojo awards you. Kumite (sparring) eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the sensei. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
