From the reviews
My daughter and I have been students at USA Karate Somerset for over 4 years now. It doesn't feel like a school, it feels like a family. With an amazing array of instructors, wonderful facility, and convenient class times... USA Karate is simply the best.
My family has been attending this dojo for the past 10 years. They are amazing martial artists who know how to connect with children at every level. They also take time to welcome their teen and adult staff, making sure to offer flexible classes.
Couldn't help but join myself after seeing the growth and determination in both my partner and his daughter. Now, as a student, I can attest that the instructors at USA Karate Somerset know just how to read each enrollee to encourage discipline and strength of will.
Everything about this school is outstanding. From the master instructor and all the black belt instructors to the facility itself. Every single class you walk away having accomplished something and grown. Everyone there is dedicated and works hard every single day to give the best training possible.
Your first Karate class at USA Karate Somerset
Nervous about walking into a Karate dojo for the first time? Almost everyone is, and a good sensei expects beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic stances, blocks, punches, and kicks — not hard sparring. Step to the side whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot. What to bring: water, and a mouthguard if you have one — many dojos lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gi and the belt your dojo awards you. Kumite (sparring) eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the sensei. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
