From the reviews
I have been training at ABK for fifteen years and look forward too many more years of being involved. Their traditional views of martial arts are taught authentically, but relevant to today’s society. As a student you don't just learn martial arts but how to survive and thrive in life.
(February 2025) Are you thinking about training for yourself or for your children? Call Master Lerma and meet him personally! Within minutes of speaking to him, you will be confident of his vast knowledge of Martial Arts, across all spectrums, and his ability to adapt to the different learning styles to ensure maximum…
My kids have been practicing martial arts at America's Best Karate of Danville and enjoyed it a lot. My son started as a Karate A-Z student (led by Master Lerma), graduated the program and then continued as an ABK student. His younger sibling has trained Karate A-Z classes (led by Ms. Mulvey) and graduated the program.
I can't recommend ABK Danville and Master Lerma highly enough. My two sons and wife have all earned black belts at ABK. When we started this journey over a decade ago, we never thought it would be this big a part of our lives. Master Lerma has an amazing way with kids.
Your first Karate class at ABK Collective (America's Best Karate of Danville)
Nervous about walking into a Karate dojo for the first time? Almost everyone is, and a good sensei expects beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic stances, blocks, punches, and kicks — not hard sparring. Step to the side whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot. What to bring: water, and a mouthguard if you have one — many dojos lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gi and the belt your dojo awards you. Kumite (sparring) eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the sensei. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
