My daughter and I have been training here for about 2 years and we love it. I first joined with my daughter as a Christmas present to her. If I had known before what I know now, I would have done it many years ago.
After watching my son's progress for almost nine years, I decided to take the plunge and begin training myself. Since day one, I have been impressed with the quality of the program and the opportunities that it offered to kids and teens. I am now able to experience, first-hand, what it offers to adults.
Four years ago I searched the west side of Indianapolis for the right place for me to continue my martial arts training. When I met Shihan Peter Adamson at the Avon Dojo, I knew that moment I found the school I was looking for.
My son has been involved with Adamson’s for 5 years. We have loved it since the beginning. He has grown so much. He has built relationships and has role models he looks up to. He has goals he strives to achieve with every session.
Your first Karate class at Adamson's Karate Avon LLC
Nervous about walking into a Karate dojo for the first time? Almost everyone is, and a good sensei expects beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic stances, blocks, punches, and kicks — not hard sparring. Step to the side whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot. What to bring: water, and a mouthguard if you have one — many dojos lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gi and the belt your dojo awards you. Kumite (sparring) eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the sensei. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
