From the reviews

I have driven past this dojo for several years and always thought about signing my daughters up for classes. Ten months ago I finally signed up for an introductory class. They offer parents to sign up for a minimal monthly fee so I joined as well. I never anticipated that I would enjoy these classes as much as I do!

★★★★★ — Kelley, Dec 2024

This was our 3 year old’s first experience with organized sports. He loves it! The classes are disciplined but fun. The kids, regardless of age, are held to high expectations and, as a result, my son takes karate very seriously.

★★★★★ — Rachel, Dec 2023

My kids have been going to ken piper karate since few months, It has been a great experience for them. The classes teach him valuable life skills like discipline, respect, and focus. The structured environment is perfect for kids who thrive on routine, and they have already gained confidence in themselves.

★★★★★ — Shazmeen, Dec 2024

When our son asked about karate a year and a half ago, we visited about half a dozen dojos in the area. We chose Family Karate because of the flexible scheduling that allows us to choose which days we attend each week, including a Saturday morning option.

Your first Karate class at Family Karate Academy USA

Nervous about walking into a Karate dojo for the first time? Almost everyone is, and a good sensei expects beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic stances, blocks, punches, and kicks — not hard sparring. Step to the side whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot. What to bring: water, and a mouthguard if you have one — many dojos lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gi and the belt your dojo awards you. Kumite (sparring) eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the sensei. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.

Karate is a contact sport. Ease in, train within your limits, listen to your instructors, and if you have any injuries or health concerns, mention them before class and check with a doctor if you're unsure.
