From the reviews
I've been a student here since I was 6 years old. I will be 21 in a few weeks and will be testing for my 4th degree black belt in 2025. Sensei Mark has helped me be the man I am today. He not only trained me in karate, he also is someone I can count on if I need him off the mat.
Great Karate studio with amazing instructors. Head Sensei Mark has been teaching karate in the northeast philly area for over 25 years, he is an icon. Still the best in the business
My sons and I were first introduced to Amerikick Northeast back in 2015, when my oldest was 3 at the time (he is now 11). Their dad and I were looking for a sport/activity for him that would not only be engaging, but something that would really be good for his growth and development.
Amerikick offers a wonderful martial arts program for people of all ages. They provide not only lessons in self defense but in self confidence, teamwork, respect for yourself as well as others and self discipline. The staff is so professional and welcoming, and the Sensei's make for awesome role models.
Your first Karate class at Amerikick Martial Arts (NE Philly)
Nervous about walking into a Karate dojo for the first time? Almost everyone is, and a good sensei expects beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic stances, blocks, punches, and kicks — not hard sparring. Step to the side whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot. What to bring: water, and a mouthguard if you have one — many dojos lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gi and the belt your dojo awards you. Kumite (sparring) eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the sensei. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
