From the reviews
Its an outstanding institution which imbibes values, determination and most importantly discipline. This is all because of relentless dedication of our dear Soke Barr. My daughter started in this astonishing institution when she was five, she is still going strong on the way to become a blackbelt.
Outstanding program. Soke Barr has been teaching karate for more than 30 years and generations of students have learned the value of hard work and perseverance under his instruction. It's not always easy but it is incredibly rewarding.
Barr Karate is an amazing school. Under the tutelage of Soke Barr, students learn the value of a strong mind, body and spirit through hard work and discipline. It’s outreach is not just within the dojo but throughout the community.
There is a dedicated group of professionals who are committed for young people become the best people that they can be. Life lessons are learned as well as discipline and efficacy-knowing the difference between what’s right and what’s wrong. These are attributes that go beyond the dojo. Congrats to Barr Karate
Your first Karate class at Barr Karate
Nervous about walking into a Karate dojo for the first time? Almost everyone is, and a good sensei expects beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic stances, blocks, punches, and kicks — not hard sparring. Step to the side whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot. What to bring: water, and a mouthguard if you have one — many dojos lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gi and the belt your dojo awards you. Kumite (sparring) eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the sensei. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
