From the reviews
Family Martial Arts has been the most amazing place for my son. The owners and coaches are the most caring people I’ve ever met, they work so well with the kids, to teach them discipline, perseverance, and well-rounded skills. My son is a very high energy kid and he has much better focus, respect and confidence!
Great place , awesome coaches! I love watching my son grow and take on new challenges. It’s giving him not only discipline but the courage to push himself harder to reach a goal set. I am so looking forward to see how proud he’ll be of himself at the end. Thank you guys for being so awesome!
I don't typically post reviews, but this place has been AMAZING! Shelly is always super nice and friendly. She greets people with such love and kindness! She even wrote a personal note and remembered a specific funny event that happened to our child and sent it to us in a Christmas Card! It was very special 😊.
Started with FMA around the beginning of last school year for my 6 year old son. His confidence boost was huge but also his attention and coordination!! It only took 1 testing cycle to be completed before my oldest daughter who was 11 was begging to join.
Your first Karate class at Family Martial Arts
Nervous about walking into a Karate dojo for the first time? Almost everyone is, and a good sensei expects beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic stances, blocks, punches, and kicks — not hard sparring. Step to the side whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot. What to bring: water, and a mouthguard if you have one — many dojos lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gi and the belt your dojo awards you. Kumite (sparring) eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the sensei. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
