From the reviews
Golden Triangle Karate, part of the United Karate Associations International (UKAI) organization, offers world class level instruction on how to properly defend yourself. Teaching the Shotokan style of martial arts, Sensei Claude Smith has blended both the traditional techniques with modern concerns of self defense.
UKAI Midwest (United Karate Association International) is lucky to have GTK. I have traveled all the way from Minnesota many times just to attend their Rocky Mountain Camp! Sensei Claude Smith is an honest instructor who truly cares about his students wellbeing.
Shotokan Karate at the Golden Triangle (Gym) is a top tier self-defense martial art taught by the UKAI Instructor for effective use in street combat. One is taught to avoid those situations if at all possible. If it isn't possible, techniques to allow the escape are learned.
As another UKAI Midwest Dojo, we can safely say that Golden Triangle Karate has some of the best instruction in the Midwest region. We have brought students from several states away to come train with them! If you are lucky enough to live near Great Falls, don't hesitate to sign up for their classes.
Your first Karate class at Golden Triangle Karate
Nervous about walking into a Karate dojo for the first time? Almost everyone is, and a good sensei expects beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic stances, blocks, punches, and kicks — not hard sparring. Step to the side whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot. What to bring: water, and a mouthguard if you have one — many dojos lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gi and the belt your dojo awards you. Kumite (sparring) eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the sensei. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
