From the reviews
This martial arts studio is for adults, teens, and kids. From what I've seen thus far, they are very inclusive - everyone is welcome to come learn, workout, and enjoy making/ achieving goals. Ive attended 3 classes and my teacher Ms Heather is excellent (beginning adults class.) Recommended!
The instructors are kind and compassionate in teaching kids and adults. My son has adhd and this has him able to control his actions without medication. My daughter is 5 and absolutely loves it. Its comforting as a parent knowing my kids are learning self defense in a safe atmosphere.
Luke and Maddie are awesome instructors. Great place to take your kids if you're looking to teach them discipline, respect, and self-confidence. Plus this is a great way to get in shape weather young or old. Highly recommend.
Great training and instructors. My son has ADHD and it has really helped him learn self control, respect, and burn off some energy! Learning self defense also gives me peace of mind for his safety. Excellent place!!
Your first Karate class at J Pat Burleson Martial Arts
Nervous about walking into a Karate dojo for the first time? Almost everyone is, and a good sensei expects beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic stances, blocks, punches, and kicks — not hard sparring. Step to the side whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot. What to bring: water, and a mouthguard if you have one — many dojos lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gi and the belt your dojo awards you. Kumite (sparring) eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the sensei. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
