From the reviews
We enrolled our three children in Karate America in 2006. Our youngest was 5 years old at that time. They attended the afterschool and summer camp programs for years, and continued on with karate lessons well after they no longer needed the care programs.
The Karate America in Oregon, WI is a tremendous place to learn whether you're a kid or an adult. My son is trained here. He's pushed hard to grow not only in the martial arts but as a person. They supplement the character traits that my wife and I are doing our best to imbue our son with.
I can not thank Karate America enough for everything the owners and employees have done for me. I have been going here for roughly 10 years now and every single moment has been beyond worth it. All of the instructors I have had have been beyond wonderful!
Karate America is the best place in Oregon for extra curricular classes for the kids and adults. You can really tell that Mrs. Burkel and her staff truly care about the kids. My 6 year old daughter has been going here for almost 3 years. My 4 year old daughter for almost a year.
Your first Karate class at Karate America Oregon
Nervous about walking into a Karate dojo for the first time? Almost everyone is, and a good sensei expects beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic stances, blocks, punches, and kicks — not hard sparring. Step to the side whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot. What to bring: water, and a mouthguard if you have one — many dojos lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gi and the belt your dojo awards you. Kumite (sparring) eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the sensei. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
