From the reviews
We have been with Sustaires ATA for over 10 years. I can't say enough about how much they have done for all 3 of my kids. The respect, self discipline and confidence they have helped build in my kids is amazing. The biggest difference we have seen is with my oldest child who has mild Autism.
My son has attended Karate for Kids for over 7 years and we have been very impressed. The owners are professional and care deeply about their students’ progress both as martial artists and as humans.
I can’t recommend this place highly enough. My son has been attending for 6 years and is now a 2nd degree Black Belt. Their instruction style is such a wonderful balance of fun, energetic, and positive lessons while still teaching respect and discipline in a firm but encouraging way.
UPDATED REVIEW: almost 3 years in and we are still here. The girls have built friendships and developed resilience, self-control, hard work, determination and perseverance. Sustaire's plays a part in their growth over the past years. I can confidently say that the girls can defend themselves when it calls for it...
Your first Karate class at Karate for Kids
Nervous about walking into a Karate dojo for the first time? Almost everyone is, and a good sensei expects beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic stances, blocks, punches, and kicks — not hard sparring. Step to the side whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot. What to bring: water, and a mouthguard if you have one — many dojos lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gi and the belt your dojo awards you. Kumite (sparring) eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the sensei. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
