From the reviews
My child has been attending for about a year and a half. He likes it and is still motivated to keep going. I like it for several reasons; 1. The owners are parents. The have a lot of experience with children and a lot of grace for parents. They have put together a program that seems to work for both. 2.
I trained with Karate International for more than 5 years and learned so much from Shannon and Joe about not only Karate, but also about being a good person. I received my Black Belt while in high school and loved every time I went to the dojo.
My 5 year old has been going here for a few months now and loves it. He had tried a different karate studio in the area that was not a good fit for him. Karate International seems better suited for this age group. The teachers are wonderful and the activities are all very engaging and fun for the kids.
5 Stars just isn't enough for Karate International of Windham. Shihan Joe and Sensei Shannon have created an environment where my child not only learns karate and self-defense but he thrives and is challenged. Our son started going to Karate International about 5 years ago and we absolutely love it there.
Your first Karate class at Karate International Windham
Nervous about walking into a Karate dojo for the first time? Almost everyone is, and a good sensei expects beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic stances, blocks, punches, and kicks — not hard sparring. Step to the side whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot. What to bring: water, and a mouthguard if you have one — many dojos lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gi and the belt your dojo awards you. Kumite (sparring) eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the sensei. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
