From the reviews
I love that there are seats for parents to watch, either on the floor or upper balcony. I like that they pair students off and use alternative equipment during each training. Seems a bit like "make it up as you go", so more structure guide to follow during class instructing.
Kona Karate has been an amazing experience for my kids. There is lots of great staff and it keeps both of my children active all year round, even the new trainees our doing very good and it is a friendly place for all ages and sizes they teach great martial arts and focus they teach the important of not starting…
We are beyond impressed with Kona Karate and so happy to have found it! It came recommended to us, after trying a couple other places for our son in the area. Instructors Te and Jade are personable, kind, and made our timid 5 year old feel right at home on day one!
Kona karate is awesome! The teachers are really involved and take the time to make sure each kid is improving at their own pace. They also ensure every class is a positive and confidence building experience. We love it!
Your first Karate class at Kona Karate Centerville
Nervous about walking into a Karate dojo for the first time? Almost everyone is, and a good sensei expects beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic stances, blocks, punches, and kicks — not hard sparring. Step to the side whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot. What to bring: water, and a mouthguard if you have one — many dojos lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gi and the belt your dojo awards you. Kumite (sparring) eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the sensei. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
