From the reviews
I have two girls ages 9 and 11 I wanted them to take a self defense class. I spoke with Kirk the Sifu at MSDT he offered them a free class after the one class they were sold and so was I. I decided to join the girls as something fun we could do together.
I am in 4th grade I have been a cheerleader, I have played basketball, I have done gymnastics and other sports. I started taking karate a few months ago from Kirk at MSDT and I love it!!! I thought it would be hard to learn but Kirk makes it easy to understand. I'm so glad my dad went by to talk to Kirk!!!
We absolutely love it here! My husband and 8 year old son both take classes here! They are awesome to work with and they both have learned so much! Great with the kids too. A fun environment but very valuable info they are teaching here! Plus it’s such a cool hobby to have!
We come here almost every single day of the week. But I'm not complaining because I absolutely love it here. I look forwards to Tuesdays and Fridays because I get to see the one and only man who at karate helps me the most Kirk. Kirk I love you sooooo much.
Your first Karate class at Mong Su Dom Tai Chinese Karate
Nervous about walking into a Karate dojo for the first time? Almost everyone is, and a good sensei expects beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic stances, blocks, punches, and kicks — not hard sparring. Step to the side whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot. What to bring: water, and a mouthguard if you have one — many dojos lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gi and the belt your dojo awards you. Kumite (sparring) eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the sensei. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
