Edit/update: 4/22/25. Ms. Tory was kind enough to work it out with us. Since we had no issues with the service or the people here, breeding the Stars to five. This review is based solely on the contract terms — we have no complaints about the quality of instruction or the senseis at Tri City Karate Academy.
A very nice, clean studio that is perfect for any family looking to join Karate. Mrs. Tory is great with kids of all abilities and knows when to be tough on them and yet also shows them respect and doesn't intimidate them. It is also a great place for adults to start or continue their training.
I was hesitant about putting my son into karate. I didn’t know what to expect or what it required. I would email Tory and get immediate response! He struggles with listening and behavior. I love the environment Tory and the other students have created. We seen a huge improvement in my sons behavior.
My child has transformed in ways I didn’t think possible. My once quiet and shy boy is now very confident and outspoken. Tri-City karate has been a blessing and that they have taught my son so much about respect, and standing up for oneself and others.
Your first Karate class at Tri City Karate Academy LLC
Nervous about walking into a Karate dojo for the first time? Almost everyone is, and a good sensei expects beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic stances, blocks, punches, and kicks — not hard sparring. Step to the side whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot. What to bring: water, and a mouthguard if you have one — many dojos lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gi and the belt your dojo awards you. Kumite (sparring) eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the sensei. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
