I work with children for a living and I can tell you that the patience and care you get from the instructors is unmatched. My child was very nervous and cried the first couple classes. Ms. Sarah went out of her way to make sure that he felt comfortable and was enjoying the class.
Has been about 7 months since my last review, daughter has been going for about 10 months now. Still feel this is a solid program with lots of learning and training options/opportunities.
My boys ages 5 and 8 are enjoying attending classes at Troy Martial Arts. They are getting great exercise, social interaction and structure, as well as learning to defend themselves. We notice them gaining confidence also.
I was very lucky when I stumbled upon Troy Martial Arts. I came from another Tae Kwon Do martial arts school out of state. I spent quite some time looking for a great family-oriented school in this area. Troy Martial Arts has exceeded my expectation of a great school!
Your first Karate class at Troy Martial Arts
Nervous about walking into a Karate dojo for the first time? Almost everyone is, and a good sensei expects beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic stances, blocks, punches, and kicks — not hard sparring. Step to the side whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot. What to bring: water, and a mouthguard if you have one — many dojos lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gi and the belt your dojo awards you. Kumite (sparring) eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the sensei. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
