From the reviews
My son has never been so excited to do anything in his life. He has mental health issues and Mr. Matt and Miss Casey are absolutely amazing. Great pricing, top notch knowledge, excellent customer service. Thank you for all you have done for my son he is doing amazing both in and out of class.
If you’re considering martial arts, you don’t need to look any further than American Martial Arts. Matt is not only an amazing instructor, but he is also one of the most genuine and caring person I’ve had the pleasure of knowing. His ability to connect with students of all ages and background is uncanny.
We love this place! Mr. Matt is great with the kids. He is tough but fare. My boys have special needs with learning disabilities and Mr. Matt provides a safe fun place for them to learn. He only tests them for promotion when they are ready. He teaches discipline, respect and a few other things along with karate.
Amazing instructor, overall great place to learn and be! My son has transformed in the time he has spent under the instruction and guidance of Mr Matt! He went from a quiet, shy, unsure teen to a confident, encouraged, eager young man.
Your first Karate class at USSD Vancouver
Nervous about walking into a Karate dojo for the first time? Almost everyone is, and a good sensei expects beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic stances, blocks, punches, and kicks — not hard sparring. Step to the side whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot. What to bring: water, and a mouthguard if you have one — many dojos lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gi and the belt your dojo awards you. Kumite (sparring) eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the sensei. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
