We are pretty new and have been only taking classes for about 6 months but I just had to review this dojo. I am so please with the level of instruction, friendliness of the staff, and not to mention a very clean location.
Master Patty Lorenz is a great instructor who owns the school. We feel very comfortable talking with her and she is very honest and upfront with everything. We have gone through some difficult times and she was willing to work with us!
I’ve been a student of Master Lorenz since I was 8 years old (now 26). Through her instruction and the instructors on her team, I grew to be the person I am today, not just in my material arts skills, but also in the life skills taught (discipline “to obey what is right,” communication, honesty, etc.).
I love this program!!! I have two kids in this program and it has helped both of them with different situations. It is very family friendly and the instructors are super!! Master Lorenz works very hard and takes a personal interest in her students.
Your first Karate class at Denver ATA Karate for Kids
Nervous about walking into a Karate dojo for the first time? Almost everyone is, and a good sensei expects beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic stances, blocks, punches, and kicks — not hard sparring. Step to the side whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot. What to bring: water, and a mouthguard if you have one — many dojos lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gi and the belt your dojo awards you. Kumite (sparring) eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the sensei. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
