From the reviews
I started training at this dojo around 2012, and I continue to train here as full black belt. I can 100% recommend this dojo. The thing that stood and continues to stand out the most to me about this dojo are the instructors/Sensei’s, who make it welcoming.
I started the adult classes here as a beginner about 5 months ago. Before the details I'll start off by saying I would definitely recommend this dojo to family/friends. They offer a free class to give it a try and ask questions before signing up.
My 4 year old daughter has been wanting to try Karate, So in passing I stopped in and was offered a free trial class. Needless to say the Parents were all very friendly, The instructor had the patience of a saint with my daughter as 1 of the youngest in the class. We will be returning, my daughter was very Happy.
The best Traditional Karate Dojo on Long Island. Teaches Discipline, Respect and Perseverance. Gives the kids a great work ethic and awesome character.
Your first Karate class at New York Karate Dojo
Nervous about walking into a Karate dojo for the first time? Almost everyone is, and a good sensei expects beginners to come through the door. Here's what to know. What to expect: a typical first class is a warm-up, then drilling basic stances, blocks, punches, and kicks — not hard sparring. Step to the side whenever you need to; no one will bat an eye. What to wear: athletic wear you can move in (or a gi if you have one); you'll train barefoot. What to bring: water, and a mouthguard if you have one — many dojos lend a loaner gi for a first class, so it's worth asking when you call. As you keep training you'll add your own gi and the belt your dojo awards you. Kumite (sparring) eases in gradually, once your fundamentals are solid. Arrive 10–15 minutes early to sign a waiver and meet the sensei. It gets easier fast — most people feel far more at home by their third class.
